A Ugandan customer has a chicken farm with approximately 900,000 chickens and wants to purchase a feed pellet machine to produce pellets by himself. We need to calculate what type of feed pellet machine is needed for 900,000 chickens, whether it is a flat die pellet machine or a ring die pellet machine. First, one chicken needs about 120 grams of chicken feed a day, and 900,000 chickens need 900,000x120g÷1000g=108000kg=108t a day, and the chicken feed pellets needed a day are 108 tons.
If it is produced according to 20 hours a day, the output per hour = 108 tons ÷ 20h = 5.4 tons / hour
If it is produced in 16 hours a day, the output per hour = 108 tons ÷ 16 h= 6.75 tons / hour
If the production is 8 hours a day, the output per hour = 108 tons ÷ 8 h = 13.5 tons / hour. The size of the pellet machine needed is calculated based on how many hours a day is produced.
